The little cute pink number

To start off my first blog post I chose this outfit because its near and dear to my heart (yes I do have love/hate relationships with my clothes and accessories and when I'm mad at them I fantasize about other clothes I see in shops).

A couple of years ago I was lucky enough to travel with my family to Istanbul,Turkey.

To my luck there was an economic slump in Turkey the exchange rate was ridiculously low and to boost sales there was a country wide discountt of 70% on textiles. Needless to say I went berserk shopping my poor moms knees paid the price.

My favorite shopping spot was not the malls but İstiklal Avenue which is the equivalent of a closed off high street in the UK only an old tram travels up and down it.

With its quaint little shops that sell chocolate bars by the pounds and its simit stalls the weather was perfect the shops ranged from international Zara and Benetton to local clothes my favourite was LC Waikiki which is a local Turkish brand where I got this pretty skirt from. It is a very light weight cotton that doesn’t need ironing. I also picked out this shirt which is every veiled girl's dream it's long sleeved but part cotton shirt to keep u cool in summer , I’ve seen look alike tshirt-shirts at Promod, the French retailer but making them is fairly easy so a DIY post is soon to come.

The scarf I am wearing is an off-white scarf from Promod with my heart still in Turkey I've recently started wearing Turkish style hijabs and this scarf is wrapped Turkish style. After wrapping the rest of the scarf around my neck I keep it in place with flower brooches like the one in the picture; practical and pretty.

Why Fab Hijab?

After much deliberation (mostly with my self) I decided to share with my fashion conscious sisters the personal style I have accumulated over the previous decade but first I must torture you by Sharing with you the trial and tribulations of the hijabi through the 90’s , given of course that I’m Egyptian and have been veiled for the last 11 years at the tender age of 15 that does not mean I have had it easier than my European and American counterparts (fashion wise only ofcourse) , 15 which is just at the time I became interested in fashion!

I’ve been through owning only white veils and tying them back Turkish style (which has made a comeback finally!) through only owning mens shirts so I could play around with colors and accessories (again making a comeback God I’m old) only wearing jeans and black pants , skirts were dull and for my mother J , I went through a khaleej style black veil and that’s all I ever wore ,

Older and much wiser now I’m over my hatred for skirts and shirts mind you have fallen even deeply in love with the art of clothes , this day and age shopping on the internet , the globalization of retail stores like zara, h&m and my beloved sewing machine it’s become a lot easier to find suitable covering up clothes , not to mention maxis and flowing skirts are in at the moment J

Hope you all enjoy the outfits I put together , hopefully this blog will build into yet another of the impressive and growing presence of young hijabis in the blogging world

My favourite sister in the whole wide world (only one in fact) will be co blogging whatever that is adding tips and hints on how to care for your hijabs and much more she will also be our technical director (geek *cough*) so any art work or design you admire on the blog is thanx to her J

Disclaimer: The outfits are not always “perfectly conservative Islamic wear” I am not a representation of anyone but myself so negative comments about the conservatism will be deleted you are welcome to criticize the style J or ofcourse make suggestions on how to make it more hijab friendly
